Canadian Railroads > passenger and freight on the old BC RailDate: 09/04/24 21:09 passenger and freight on the old BC Rail Author: loleta In addition to the near-daily freight train between North Vancouver and Squamish, BC, the seasonal Rocky Mountaineer passenger train makes an appearance southbound on Thursdays and northbound on Saturdays. Here are some photos from a recent Thursday:
1. RMR train 614 crosses Culliton Creek between Swift and Cheakamus. 2. About 30 minutes later, 614 is at sea level at Britannia. 3. Southbound at Furry Creek. 5. As soon as 614 arrived in North Vancouver, train 546 departed northward. Here it is at Deeks. 6. And I'm back at Britannia, this time with train 546, one unit and about 5 boxcars. - LF Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/04/24 22:03 by loleta. 8. On a different day, one of CN's leprous 2500-series C44-9WLs leads 546 north at the north switch of Brunswick. 9. And the same train approaches Squamish. - LF Date: 09/04/24 23:43 Re: passenger and freight on the old BC Rail Author: refarkas Scenic beauties!

I got a taste of British Columbia a few years back staying at Panorama ski resort in Invermere and a few side trips to Canmore, Revelstoke and over to Lake Louise. I hope to get back and ride the rails including The Skeena, the Canadian and perhaps the RM train. Thanks for sending us images here on TO, as it is a nudge to think about planning a trip out there

Do you if CN has resumed any freight traffic between Squamish and Williams Lake--particularly since the Jasper fires? Or does this remain the once weekly domain of only the Rocky Mountaineer? Date: 09/07/24 18:03 Re: passenger and freight on the old BC Rail Author: BoostedFridge Railvt Wrote:

No freight between Squamish and Exeter (100 Mile House) other than the extremely infrequent delivery/pickup of generating equipment from the BC Hydro faility at Shalalth, just south of Lillooet. There is still a daily turn between Williams Lake and Exeter. For non Rocky Mountaineer traffic over that section this year, there has been the annual pre passenger season track inspection train, a weed sprayer train, a subsequent trip by the CN Budd Car/Track inspection car, and two movements of freight cars in and out of storage just south of Whistler.
