Canadian Railroads > Question on steam locomotive inSarnia ONDate: 09/09/24 07:39 Question on steam locomotive inSarnia ON Author: bandob Hello. I posted this photo of a surprise I saw driving through Sarnia in 1970 and thought I'd ask here: Does anyone know its current status?
Thanks, B&O Bill Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/10/24 08:52 by bandob. Date: 09/09/24 13:35 Re: Question on steam locomotive in Brantford ON Author: NiagaraMike I believe its on display in Capreol Ontario!
Date: 09/09/24 14:08 Re: Question on steam locomotive in Brantford ON Author: bandob Well, I've heard two ideas. One is Capreol, other is Sarnia ON. Using Google as my friend, I found out 6069 is indeed in Sarnia, 6077 is in Capreol.

There is a group working on 6069’s cosmetic restorations that have a Facebook page.
I also found this from a 6069 website; "Jack Shirley, Bill Moon and Joseph Stonehouse formed the Bayview Railroad Museum Society in 1961 and began negotiating with the CNR to bring the engine 6069 to Sarnia. In 1963, 6069 was released to Sarnia with the society acting as custodians. The locomotive sat in Bayview Park until it had to be moved due to Highway 402 construction. In 1972, 6069 was relocated to Centennial Park." I wish I could read the sign on the tender perhaps this would be a clue on the location or perhaps the slide is mislabelled? I would like to know the story behind the van in the photo. I was not sure of the route we drove from Marquette, MI to Toronto in 1970, so I did a Google Maps search. Sure enough, we likely drove through Sarnia and nowhere near Brantford. I mislabeled the photo. I have corrected the post.
