Canadian Railroads > More "New" Motive PowerDate: 10/09/24 17:59 More "New" Motive Power Author: cn6218 Z120 on September 14 was powered by two of the "new" rebuilt Dash-9s, 3315 and 3392, as it arrived at Pace Yard in Halifax, led by ES44AC 2905. These AC44C6Ms are conversions from DC-motor C44-9W with new inverters, AC motors and other engine upgrades. They also got new cabs, but most seem to have retained the old 3-chime horns. 3315 is the former CN 2597, while 3392 is a former BNSF Dash-9. Both are CN class EF-644zf , although since 3392 is from a different order, it ought to have a different class designation.

Yeah, that empty flat surprised me too. CN does have rules about what can be right behind the power. Apparently an empty centrebeam is just over the threshold for weight, but I'm not sure what would be lighter than an empty 60 ft. flatcar. GTD |
