Shortline Saturday - Huron Central nr Sudbury Ont October 2009

Maybe better described as a Regional but we don't have a day for those, while on one of those Business trips I used a Rental Car to make a run to Sudbury and heard on the news about Huron Central making a run that day after having been shut down for a while. A quick look at a map and a quick reconnoiter allowed for a few photos not too distant from Sudbury. At the time all I had was a smaller point and shoot digital camera but it has provided some very good photos in the right conditions. After a few photos the route becomes part of the maze of rails in the western part of Sudbury so I was not able to follow the train.

On a blue sky with puffy white clouds kinda day in October 2009, in geographic order.

#1 HC 802 cresting the grade alongside Route 4 or Fairbanks Lake road heading towards Sudbury. This was the first time I had seen a locomotive converted to a slug but with a full cab, suppose it would be a decent ride in the cab.

#2 crossing Route 4 or Fairbanks Lake road with some wide angle. The 2008 has the corporate lettering for Quebec - Gatineau Rwy, the Wikipedia says it's simply part of the Roster.

#3 along old highway 17 approaching Whitefish.

Thanks for looking.

Your third shot is glorious, and the G&W family has one of the great corporate images in railroading.
