Canadian Railroads > Fall Excursion on the NB SouthernDate: 10/20/24 17:08 Fall Excursion on the NB Southern Author: cn6218 New Brunswick Southern has run passenger excursions in the fall a number of times in the past. This year's trip was October 4, between McAdam and St. Stephen, with the option of dinner in the historic CP station at McAdam after the ride. The trip sold out very quickly, as did the dinner, so I had to be content with chasing the train instead of riding. The beneficiary of the trip this year was the McAdam Station Society, which operates the former CP station in McAdam as a museum.
With limited photo opportunities right in McAdam, we opted to chase NB Southern train 120 towards Saint John first, but with a planned departure from McAdam at 11:30, we were in position at Watt Jct. to meet the train by noon. There was also a band of "outlaws" on horseback there to execute an old fashioned train robbery, so we got our picture as the train arrived, and then got out of the way and on to the next location. At that time of day, it seemed that the train was heading directly into the sun at most places, but one exception was Honeydale, where I shot a short video of the two GP40-2s and 3 ex-CN coaches on the train crossing NB Rt. 755. 3095 is a recent arrival on NBSR, originally Southern GP38AC 2856, built in 1971. 3028 was built as Conrail 3327 in 1978. Both came to NBSR by way of Norfolk Southern. The return trip wasn't much better for lighting, so we had a break and late lunch at Carman's Diner in St. Stephen (next to the Milltown Branch), and then caught up with the train as they arrived in McAdam, just after 17:00. The clouds parted just in time as the train neared the station on the west leg of the wye there. GTD ![]() ![]() You must be a registered subscriber to watch videos. Join Today! I ASSumed each coach has its own generator, but I didn't look for details on that. If they were powered separately any coach can be used by itself and they don't need to worry about HEP wiring between them. It's fairly clear that they are not powered from the locomotives. GTD |
