Mile 26 Foliage
Author: cn6218

Years ago, mile 26 of CN's Bedford Sub used to be a good spot to shoot the daily Ocean as it neared Halifax.  Tree and other brush growth has eliminated that late afternoon angle for the past 10 or 15 years, but when the bridge just east of the milepost was replaced recently, a new morning view opened up.  The long tele view had always been there, but with some low hanging wires next to the bridge, a photographer had to almost lie down on the bridge deck to get under them, and this was a one-lane bridge with no sidewalk.  With the new bridge, the wires were relocated, it has two lanes and a sidewalk, and the trees were cleared close by during construction, so a couple different angles are possible.

At 12:22 on October 22 I caught Z120 here in the waning fall foliage.  It wasn't an especially long train, only 300 or so axles, and had all the power up front: 3859, 3946, 2991 and 3922.  All are GE ES44ACs, although the two 3900 are ex-CREX leasers, still in the silver paint, to add a little bit of variety.  The causeway in the last photo crosses a small cove on Grand Lake.
