Canadian Railroads > Ex-CN 24 duplex roomette car

Among other cars at the CN station in Vancouver,BC was the Irondale.
A 24 duplex roomette car built by Canadian Car & Foundry in 1950.

In the early days of VIA operation, those sleepers were frequently used as a crew dormitory and located behind the baggage car.  The CPR had been using baggage-dormitory cars on the Canadian.  The "I" series roomettes were more popular with the crew than the triple-bunks in the dormitory.

I recall that CN  had used those sleepers as a crew car, so VIA continued that practice.

These cars were unusual in that they had 6 wheel trucks.  

The duplex design I thought was pretty cool and definitely a neat option for single travellers. VIA still has the variety of sleepers, even with the ex-CP stainless steel cars (e.g. berths, roomettes, bedrooms, triple bedrooms), but Amtrak has lost the sleeper variety (e.g. slumbercoach, duplex, etc.). You could say VIA has lost some of it too, but they still have the berths. Nice picture and nice capture. 

Was there a corporate relationship between CC&F and Pullman-Standard ? 
The vents on the roof look very P-S.
