Canadian Railroads > Suggestions on connecting from the Canadian to the SkeenaDate: 11/29/24 17:51 Suggestions on connecting from the Canadian to the Skeena Author: march_hare Putting together a half thought out train trip for this winter, which would involve connecting from the westbound Canadian to the next day’s train to Prince Rupert.
It it just dawned on me that while this is off season for the trains, it’s peak skiing season, and I don’t know what the realities are of getting overnight addomodations in Jasper, after the fire. Anybody put out there with some advice? Date: 11/29/24 18:30 Re: Suggestions on connecting from the Canadian to the Skeena Author: sarailfan march_hare Wrote:

Jasper is crying for tourists because so much of their economy depends on them. While one major hotel burned, much of the town was untouched. I'd recommend contacting a hotel or two and see what they have for availability. Weekends are likely busier with folks from Edmonton coming out for a weekend of skiing. I took two minutes to check several weekends in January and February for hotel accomodations and pricing. There is currently lots of availability in Jasper at seven of the decent midrange hotels, with prices averaging $170CAD ($118 USD) per night. This pricing is comparable to the nicer hotels in Valemount, and slightly higher to the chain hotels in Hinton. Typically Jasper hotels run at a premium price to these neighboring areas at all times of year, so I think it's safe to infer that the typical tourism of the season is down.
