Canadian Railroads > ENGRO 901Date: 12/28/24 12:42 ENGRO 901 Author: hoggerdoug Can anybody supply any info regarding ENGRO 901, builder info, build date, owners etc, final disposition etc.
Lucky enough to have gotten a picture of this unit June 1982 at the CN Calder (Edmonton AB) loco shop, most likely there for repairs etc. Thanks, Doug Date: 12/28/24 19:25 Re: ENGRO 901 Author: moonliter Doug, this S-2 may be from the ENGRO plant in Beamer, AB. (Fort Saskatchewan) later called Redwater. They bought a used S-2 ( Blt:Alco 05/1946 nee-13A for the Newburg & South Shore, a Cleveland, OH short-line) in 1980 It had been renumbered by the N&SS to 1006. As you notice this engine does not have an ALCO S-2 stack plus the added rad on the nose of the locomotive. This is because this locomotive was rebuilt with a Cummins engine in April of 1980. This hard part about following this engine was the name changes to the company. Esso, Imperial Oil Ltd,Esso Chemicals Canada, Engro, Agruim.Sherritt Gorden to name a few, the only constant was the location. It was off the roster by the end of 1999. It was picked up by Andrew Merrilees (used railway equipment dealer) and reappeared on the new Quebec Central as No.9.in 2002.

I know Redwater because it was where CN a the new connection with the NAR after the bought CP Rail's half. The 1st time I rode the NAR we went through Gibbons, AB Gerry Gaugl Ottawa ON Date: 12/29/24 16:12 Re: ENGRO 901 Author: feclark moonliter Wrote:

At East Edmonton, the Vegreville Sub heads NE, and before exiting town, you hit St. Paul Junction. From there, the Coronado Sub runs effectively due north for a bit, passes through Gibbons, and eventually running through Redwater, a proper town. This sits north of the Nutrien facility that sits at the right-angle bend in Highway 643. That facility is neither in Redwater nor Fort Saskatchewan, but is about halfway between the two. Fort SK is on the Vegreville Sub. At what I'd describe as being on the northeast perimeter of Fort SK, you find Beamer Junction on the Vegreville Sub. There doesn't appear to be a place called Beamer, but there may well have been. The Beamer Industrial Spur heads about 6 miles north from there, and services Nutrien and a host of other industrial plants. Beamer Junction sits on the north side of a potato field (if I recall the crop), and I took a few shots there many years ago (K64). Unfortunately, the trains were late in the morning and the sun angles were very poor. Fred |
