PGE Boxcar Lettering Question
Author: stanhunter

I have a modeling question for you Canadian railway experts out there:

What year did the Pacific Great Eastern start using the “stacked lettering” paint livery on 40 foot boxcars, replacing the Caribou logo? Was it before, or after, 1953?

Many thanks!

Stan, I contacted Timothy Horton, a fellow who is one of the gurus of PGE/BCRR/BCOL rolling stock, with your question. I've pasted in his reply, complete with a link to a video he has produced on the subject.
"The stacked lettering was introduced on repaints in 1957, and new cars in 1958.  I have a video on PGE freight cars stencillling here:

The stacked scheme is discussed starting at the 9:00 minute mark."
Hope it's helpful to you.
