Canadian Railroads > A Late 120, 10 Years Ago TodayDate: 01/10/25 06:26 A Late 120, 10 Years Ago Today Author: cn6218 Winter is the season of late freight trains, and the winter of 2015 was certainly no exception to that generalization.
Train 120 would usually be passing Brookfield not long after sunrise, but on January 10, 2015 it was 15:00 before SD70M-2s 8013 and 8913 appeared at Brookfield, NS with the daily train for Halifax. The train was doing 50 mph at Mile 56 of the Bedford Sub, and was kicking up the fine powder snow that had infiltrated the ballast. Although the train was mostly intermodal containers, a cut of boxcars, most likely loaded with paper, was with the "junk" cars on the head end. They would be delivered to the "paper pier" at Ocean Terminals in the south end of Halifax. Half an hour later the train had reached the west end of Sandy Cove siding, about mile 27.
