Canadian Railroads > Mile 82 on the Cascapédia SubDate: 01/19/25 08:55 Mile 82 on the Cascapédia Sub Author: cn6218 VIA train 16, once known as the Chaleur, was easing across one of the numerous trestles on the former CN Gaspé line on October 3, 2009. The train is in the seaside village of St-Siméon.
The train was no larger than usual this day, but VIA would assign an extra unit to the train at this time of year to help with traction problems due to leaves on the rails. There were no freight this far east, and the passenger train was only 3 days a week, resulting in slippery conditions. The problem was aggravated by the numerous slow orders for bridges such as this one, which required the train to accelerate back up to track speed. This trestle is one of several which have been replaced with new concrete and steel structures as the rehabilitation of the line continues. This segment should see cement traffic from Port-Daniel as well as VIA service once the work is completed. GTD Edited 1 time(s).
