Canadian Railroads > L'Amiral Excursion Train on the GaspéDate: 01/29/25 05:46 L'Amiral Excursion Train on the Gaspé Author: cn6218 On Monday Fred asked about the murals on the sides of the passenger coaches used by L'Amiral. I only made two trips to see the train, and unfortunately didn't ride it. The first trip was July 27, 2013 their first day of operations with an excursion from New Richmond to Bonaventure and back. This was not the train's normal route, but the railway's headquarters are in New Richmond, as is Gaspésie Diesel, which did the work on refurbishing the ex-GO commuter cars. There was a ribbon cutting ceremony in New Richmond, and I was able to get some detail shots inside and outside the train.

The new "Intermodal Transportation Hub" is shown behind the train in the first image here. It was designed to serve rail, bus and cruise ship passengers. I don't think VIA had anything to do with building it, and there hadn't been a VIA train here in quite some time anyway. Apparently the cab car on the end of the train was not full functional, so the RS-18 had to run around the train for the trip back.
There are some more pictures here from an old Trainorders post: My Last Chaleur - And First L'Amiral "L'Amiral" translated loosely to "The Flagship". GTD ![]() ![]() ![]() Date: 01/29/25 07:33 Re: L'Amiral Excursion Train on the Gaspé Author: refarkas Wonderful coverage - Beautiful train.

Fred Date: 01/31/25 07:50 Re: L'Amiral Excursion Train on the Gaspé Author: joemvcnj Those cars must now be so rusted to the tracks, they will not run again.
The ONR's GO carts also rolled like cinder blocks, rattling your kidneys and teeth over 30MPH. I have heard the Tempo cars were not much better. You can't make regular railroad cars run on TTC subway car trucks, and don't think any TTC subway car ever lasted more than ~30 years. |
