SD40 Saturday in New Brunswick
Author: cn6218

A little more than a year ago I was in New Brunswick, and chased NB Southern train 121 west from Saint John.  On the point was their last operating SD40, 8145, leading more recently arrived SD70M-2s 6407 and 6409.  The train is shown here at Tracy, on February 18, 2024.

8145 has quite the history.  It was built as UP 3021 in 1966, and then sold to ( or returned to lessor) CIT group in 1989. It went to Morrison-Knudson in 1994 and was rebuilt as SD40M-2 9057, then a stint as TFM 1515, before winding up in Helm's lease fleet as 6304.  It seems to have been sold to NBSR in 2017 after they had leased it for a while, and then was renumbered to 8145 in 2022.
