Switcher Saturday - CN With a Consist on CP's Ellwood Sub, Ottawa
Author: feclark

On October 23, 1978, I shot CN SW1200RS 1312 southbound (moving away from the camera, pushing the van) on CP's Ellwood Sub, headed for Walkley Yard in Ottawa. Unlike last week's post at https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?15,5992165, which was a light move, this one has a CN mechanical temperature control car, an empty CP box car, and a CN van. Although the photo is the right month, and the reefer suggests this could be related to the annual "running of the grapes" (a reference to moonlighter's excellent contribution to last week's post), this move never went near City Centre. I caught it coming WB off the CN Beachburg Sub onto the Ellwood connector (NE quadrant of the Ellwood diamond), then it backed SB through the diamond and past me, headed for Sawmill Creek and beyond. As well, any of the CN moves I ever saw head to City Centre on CP didn't use a van. I guess this shows you can't always reconstruct things from a single photo.
