Canadian Railroads > An RDC in Halifax (in this Century)Date: 03/13/25 11:01 An RDC in Halifax (in this Century) Author: cn6218 Budd RDCs were once the mainstay of VIA's operations in the Maritimes, usually covering everything except the Ocean and Atlantic. But after January 15, 1990 they were all parked, many at the Halifax VIA station, and never ran another revenue mile.
Many eventually wound up at Industrial Rail Services at the old Gordon Yard diesel shop in Moncton, NB and a few were even reconditioned and ran again for VIA, but out on Vancouver Island or the White River route, not the Maritimes. One that did get a full rebuild was the 6202, a Budd/CC&F RDC-2, originally built in 1958 as CN D202, that IRSI bought from VIA in 2000. Although it has VIA paint here, I don't think it was ever sold back to VIA. It went to All Earth Rail, Vermont in 2016 after IRSI's bankruptcy. On September 8, 2007 CN used it to provide rides between the Fairview Shop, Intermodal Terminal and mile 7 of the transfer track (staying within yard limits so OCS clearances were not required) during Family/Safety Day activities. It was near mile 7 in this scene at Birch Cove, with Bedford Basin in the background. GTD ![]() Date: 03/13/25 14:24 Re: An RDC in Halifax (in this Century) Author: refarkas Rare catch - Super scene.

A nice landscape with a train in it. Date: 03/17/25 20:39 Re: An RDC in Halifax (in this Century) Author: TCnR Interesting story.
Don't know any details but moving around a bit on Google Maps provides this side view. The satellite photo seems to show the same two cars and parts on the grounds. Perhaps there is something about the photo dates. The plot thickens. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/17/25 20:43 by TCnR. ![]() |
