Saint John, NB question.
Author: moonliter

I'm on a road trip in Atlantic Canada and was passing through Saint John on the old highway that crosses the Saint John River at the Reversing Falls.  I noticed red flags at one end.  Is the bridge closed?  If so where does the NB Southern exchange traffic with CN.

The only way across the river is that bridge.  Perhaps there was work going on and the flags were protecting a foreman.  The track between Dever Rd. Yard (on the west side) and Island Yard (former CN on the east side) is all within cautionary limits, so the RTC wouldn't be preventing movements across the bridge.

There were a number of other rail crossings of the Saint John River, CN at Fredericton, and CP at Woodstock, Perth Andover and Grand Falls, but those are all abandoned or swept away in Spring floods.  The only other one is the connection between Maine Northern and CN at St. Leonard, NB and Van Buren, ME.  It is still active today and sees a lot of woodchip traffic from St. Leonard, which eventually ends up in Saint John.
