European Railroad Discussion > Cork IrelandDate: 06/20/09 08:50 Cork Ireland Author: odub We made it through Ireland and are currently sitting in Lugano, Switzerland with storms approaching from the south.
Can't post very effectively - working on my son's computer with software I've never used before so photos will be slow in processing. More later. Not a bad livery, neither. Cheers, Kurt.
Date: 06/21/09 05:17 Re: Cork Ireland Author: colehour Yes, thanks for the photo. I traveled by rail in Ireland in 1985 when the country was still poor. The equipment was not nearly so nice and I recall one conductor who was dressed quite shabbily.
As I recall, the system was broad gauge. Is that true? Date: 06/21/09 20:39 Re: Cork Ireland Author: airbrakegeezer colehour Wrote:

Yes, major railways in both the Republic and Northern Ireland are "Irish gauge", 5' 3" or 1600mm (Australian and Brazilian broad gauges are the same, due to being influenced/designed/built by Irish engineers).
