Two Freights, not very French
Author: Focalplane

A beautiful warm and sunny day, so a quick visit to the trackside here in Nissan and the chance meeting with two freight trains.

The first was seen west of Nissan, at my favorite trackside location where the catenary poles are on the far side of the tracks. This is an eastbound freight with French locomotive and mostly German and Dutch petrochemical cars.

The second was seen at Nissan Station, with a CargoRail westbound container train. Most of the containers were also German.

1 and 2. SNCF Class BB 26000, 26176 "Sybic" in orange/grey livery heads the eastbound train.

3. Bombardier TRAXX Class E 186, in CargoRail livery, heads the westbound train. The stacks of glass bottles on the left are in readiness for this year's vintage. This used to be the loading dock at Nissan Station but is no more.

Time, approximately 1 p.m., Saturday, January 15th

Nice! I wish I had gotten more freight action when I was there...

The Euro Cargo Rail (Deutsche Bahn subsidiary) train has an Ambrogio Transporti swapbody on the first flat wagon. Their traffic normally runs out of Mechelen, Belgium or Candiolo, Italy. They have a terminal at Le Boulou, France west of Port Bou on the Spanish border.

Here are a few more Ambrogio's as the train swept passed me.

What a weather you have had down there, sunny and warm again!

Interesting to see Traxx-mobiles that far south in France.

Thank you for posting the interesting pictures!

Well, this morning we had a change in the weather, and I had been thinking of visiting Port Bou and the new LGV line through the Perthus Tunnel. That will have to be done another day.
