European Railroad Discussion > Attractive but little known European stationDate: 04/14/14 16:31 Attractive but little known European station Author: GettingShort This is the station in Chisinau, Moldova. Not many travelers or railfans visit Moldova so this very attractive station isn't well know. The building is in superb condition with new platforms and and attractive train shed. The station has international services to Bucharest Romania, Moscow, Odessa in Ukraine that passes through the breakaway republic of Transnistria, as well as local services in Moldova. The trains are largely equipped with rolling stock built in the Soviet Union as well as some Hungarian Ganz-Mavag DMU's that are being rebuilt to modern standards in Romania.
Interestingly rail operations use Russian as the spoken language with Russians making up most of the operating personnel. Image 1 is the station Image 2 the daily train from Chisinau to Odessa through Transnistria Image 3 the departure board and aquarium. The station had several well maintained aquarium and they are a common sight in rail stations all the way across Eastern Europe and in parts of Asia, especial in the ex-Soviet countries.
