ICE to Vienna
Author: andersonb109

After a long flight over, I just came off ICE no. 91 from Frankfurt to Vienna. Every stop on time to the minute. Max 4 minute dwell time to load and unload hundreds at some stops. All doors open automatically. No seats assigned by the guard causing delays. . If you want a seat reservation, get one ahead of time. Only pa announcements were for upcomming stops with NO instructions how to exit. No one seemed confused or got left behind! Only negative is the endless parade of sound barriers, many along open fields, thus spoiling the view from windows that area actually clean and large enough to see out of. The power cars windows were even cleaned in route (tip...sit there...some drivers will clear the fogged glass in the compartment to let you look out front! Amtrak has soooooo far to go to come close to the European P.T. experience. . Next up an overnight back to Frankfurt after "other" activities in Montenegro (which might include a train to the airport).

It's not always that good, but yes, it's such a long way from Amtrak.

Get Amtrak stable funding like DB has and maybe they could get better.

Unlikely. Amtrak has so many problems, including the private carriers it operates over and a defeatist mindset.

And a vigorous well-funded lobby trying to make certain it fails.
