European Railroad Discussion > Scandinavia Trip Pt 5 - Stockholm LRT & crazy trackworkDate: 09/02/14 22:55 Scandinavia Trip Pt 5 - Stockholm LRT & crazy trackwork Author: dwatry Stockholm has a number of LRT lines throughout the region, and the LRT network is growing. In the summer of 2014, however, much of the network was closed down for rebuilding. The 22-line, a long circumferential line, was completely shutdown for rebuilding, as was the 21-line to Lidingo. The 12-line to Nockeby was operating, however, as was the relatively new urban streetcar, the 7-line.
1) 7-line streetcar on Hamngatan. This shot taken about 10-1030 at night in early July, so you can see how you can enjoy the many hours of daylight! 2) 7-line streetcar at Nybroplan. 3) 7-line streetcar on bridge to Djurgarden, which is where the stunning Vasa Museum is located. You can rent canoes/kayaks under this bridge if you want to do your railfanning by boat. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 09/02/14 23:19 by dwatry. Date: 09/02/14 23:06 Re: Scandinavia Trip Part 5 - Stockholm LRT and some Cr Author: dwatry The Nockeby LRT line (12-line) has an unusual feature in that it switches from left-hand running to right-hand running mid-line. The line has a cross-platform interchange with the Tunnelbana (Metro) at Alvik. The Tunnelbana system is set up for left-hand running, like the SJ system, so at Alvik the LRT meets the Tunnelbana as a left-handed system. Once the LRT line leaves the Tunnelbana ROW, however, it must interact with a street network that is right-hand running. So at the first station out of Alvik, the tracks are set up to cross over every train from left-hand to right-hand running.
4) 7-line train at Alleparken, heading toward Alvik, running right-handed. 5) Train from Alvik, running left-handed. Specialwork in front of the train is set up to cross over all trains from left to right-hand running, and VV depending on direction. 6) Train toward Alvik entering track to cross from right to left-handed running. This is a very frequent and reliable system.
7) Tunnelbana train at Alvik. 8) Tunnelbana station at Fridhemsplan, showing walls hewn out of natural rock. Station is extremely deep, and feels a little like you are in a science fiction movie. 9) Tunnelbana train at Ostermalmstorg.
