MTU supplies engines to Latvian State Railway
Author: E111

According to the press, Rolls-Royce, the new owner of MTU, will supply 28 prime movers of the type 16V 4000 R43 with an output of 2,200 kW. These will be used to power 14 upgraded 2M62U freight locomotives intended for the service of the Latvian State Railways in national freight transport. The upgrade of the M62U units will be performed by CZ LOKO in the Czech Republic.

Similar prime movers (MTU type 16V 400 R41) are already in use in the Siemens Eurorunner (LG type ER20) locomotives for the Latvian State Railways, so it looks LG was satisfied with them

Interesting, thanks for the news! Here is an LDZ 2m62 on line in Salaspils, Latvia. 2M62 is incredibly common out there. These haul lots an lots of Russian oil to Western markets.

But it seems like the ER20 is not in traffic in Latvia, but the Lithuanian LG. They are considered very powerful and dependable.

McKey,

Thanks for the correction! While having been in both countries, I still tend to mix them up; my fault...

This happens to me too for same reasons, so no worries ;) Not to talk about Baltic trams...

But I hope we can see ER20s or Vectron Diesels in Latvia and Estonia too. And even if we don't there will be lot of "normal" German and Polish rolling stock there as the 1435 network building progresses.

Somehow I don't see a "network" there.....a trunk like with a branches, maybe. But certainly not a network of the 1520mm kind.

Yes and no, and maybe :) ...according to latest plans and more than doubled additional budget (not counting the EU money already spent) it is in fact going to look very much like a Christmas tree! So most areas will be covered from the main trunk line.

Lets wait and see what part is again talking and what real projects!
