from Plattling a DMU train of the private railway WBA runs to the frontier at Bayerisch Eisenstein through mountainous terrain through towns with names such as Deggendorf Triefenreid Zwiesel and Grun a lot of history to be seen many old stations and yards are left to retire in peace no demolition out here

after setting off i noticed had only 3 others on the short train as passengers

the run through heavy grades and a tunnell was easily handled by the diesel

it appeared as if the first few miles may have been closed once and then rebuilt possibly after the cold war perhaps

there were no passengers at most stations with names such as Spicak,Zlenena Lhota,Desenice and Nyrsko it is a wonder why a loco hauled train operates this line perhaps in summer they get more takers

i went as far as the junction station of Janovice nad Uhlavov

the day being short on sunlight i wanted to see more of the countryside before it got dark

around this station was deserted i saw 2 passengers waiting to go to Germany

there was a female caretaker in attendance the place was most serene on a sunny fall afternoon

the next train was on a cross country line that was not marked on some maps

and i expected something simple for this service and was not dissapointed !

a railbus of 2 axles with again just 2 or 3 passengers and a conductor for company

having traveled in the UK many times i remember the Pacer class 142 trains affectionately called nodding donkeys this was very close to same!

it came in from the north and went through incredibly scenic rolling countryside stations such as Pocinovice,Loucim,Kdyne,Starec and Spanov

there was a feeling of these places being ghost towns but at least the buildings have escaped demolition but some do need some attention

the rail bus terminated at a major location known as Domazlice here was a freight yard with a yard engine a few log trains and a number of main line passenger trains

the train bach to Germany was run by an Alex company service via Cham to Schwandorf and back to Regensburg an engine change at the station produced a special ROCO trains liveried DB loco that must have taken quite a job to decorate

What a great series of pictures, thanks for sharing! Just for the sake of completeness: The "Waldbahn" (WBA, translation would be "Forest Railway") is the label of the Regentalbahn Bahnbbetriebs GmbH (RGB) for their lines in the Bavarian Forest (Bayerischer Wald) and RGB also owns those DMU's of the type RS1 (Regio-Shuttle 1). So WBA is not a railway on its own.

The last picture shows the turntable of the former roundhouse of the station Bayrisch Eisenstein, which is now a museum of the Bayerischer Localbahnverein (BLV) and houses their collection of Bavarian branch line locomotives. It is definitely worthwhile a visit (see the two pictures below).

The building is still owned by the two different railways and each one is responsible for the maintenance on their side of the border, which can clearly be seen on the picture below. To the left is the DB part of the station, to the right side is the one of the Czech Railway.

The 183 001 Taurus of the Vogtlandbahn ( subsidiary of the Regentalbahn, so it is not a DB unit) was decorated on the occasion of the celebration of 175 years of railways in Germany in 2010. The design was done by the Austrian artist Gudrun Geiblinger and was supported by ROCO. It is actually not a paint job, but the decoration was printed on self-adhesive foils, which then have been attached to the locomotive. To complement your great pictures of the unit, my picture below shows the unit at Munich Main Station at a time when Arriva was still owning Regentalbahn.
