Today I was at Tikkurila station to photograph the last days of the old station - from next year a new station complex will open it s doors. And explored a bit of the new place.
It was nice snowing day.

1. Train set of four Sm1,2 at the new station. A new glassy corridors. On my right was new station building.
2. Driving way to the parking of a new station gives new photography viewpoint.
3. InterCity #173 is going to Tampere.

I'm surprised it took a total of 4 decades to build this public transportation hub at Tikkurila station. But the needs of fast growing city are definitely many, so often the public transportation project are the ones that are put forward for "another one or two years"...

Next step will be metro to Tikkurila, might take another decade or maybe two?

Picture also from Tikkurila, during summer 2014.

Actually, I expected that new station will be build over the tracks in Pasila manner. It could give very good protection of passengers from the weather and save on the land use.

Well, I suppose they did not have the money. Fortunately they had money for this building, after 4 decades of planning...

Did you read that Pasila, Helsinki will actually be a "skyscraper city". The current (new) station will be demolished / built over with a sizable shopping mall and/or office building. And all this area in your picture from Pasila will now be covered with sizable buildings.

I think it could be reasonable to move the main Helsinki railway station to Pasila, is it? Just add metro station there.

BTW, have you read that VR administration is moving out of the Helsinki railway station to Pasila?
May be we should ask for a tour around the building before its reprofiled.

The new Tikkurila station, three days old:

1. Small ticket office.
2. The way up to the main corridor.
3. The main hall/corridor.
No shops opened yet. The process of shops installation is on the way. All looks very fresh new.

Hey, this looks really icy!

And: someone has definitely been visiting Copenhagen Central, if you can see what I mean. Numerous other Nordic design features seem to be visible here too.

Question: do they play classical music indoors, especially on corridors?

Ha! Interesting!Sort of "post-modernism" :)
They play nothing. And that's good.

I thought I had to post my "dejavu" from 100 years back...

Anyways I like the roundish architecture, thank you for taking time to post the pictures here! I wonder what we will see once the Ringbana opens this year...they are supposed to use part of the budget to "artistic" designs, and often the architecture is quite ambitious anyway, made to last centuries of time. I think we have some foretaste on the coming in the form of the artistic bridge north of Tikkurila.

Will be anyway nothing like Moscow Stalin's metro stations. Modern steel constructions do not look like designed to last "for centuries". It should be at least rivets and very thick metal :)
Modern structures looks like they designed to be quickly disassembled when needed. Looks technological, but does not create feeling "for centuries".
