European Railroad Discussion > SCNF strikeDate: 05/20/16 10:46 SCNF strike Author: renf I have a ticket to travel from Paris to Bordeaux next Thursday 26 May. How likely is it that SCNF will be operating? Their website was
not terribly informative in this week's strike. When there is a strike do no trains, a few trains or many trains run? Is there some part of their website that clearly indicates which trains may operate? Thank you,. Date: 05/20/16 12:52 Re: SCNF strike Author: ValvePilot I've been caught in France during a SNCF strike and there was nothing running. But the strikes usually don't last long but
expect 3 days. In Germany the strikes are more geographically targeted and you will find a few ICE's still running. France? Maybe some TGV's will remain but France is unpredictable in this regard. The Labor Movement has and is unstable. Good Luck! Date: 05/20/16 15:43 Re: SCNF strike Author: andersonb109 The French need to get their transportation system under control. Seems either the trains or air traffic controllers are often going on strike. And sometimes with little or no warning. Aren't unions great? The traveling public be dammed.

It's not just the transportation industries, it's the whole bloody work force. It's almost impossible to get fired from a job in France. The Government won't allow it! Date: 05/20/16 21:33 Re: SCNF strike Author: ValvePilot There are riots going on as we speak over this matter. Government wants some changes, the workers do not.
No doubt the unions are involved in this. France has been this way since WW 2, maybe before. But they had some real beauties when it came to long distance travel; Train Blue, The Mistral, Le Capitole and finally the TGV. Date: 05/21/16 13:00 Re: SCNF strike Author: renf The rail union may strike SCNF from 1700 Tuesday until 800 or this forthcoming week. Will many, few or none of the intercity and TGV trains likely operate?
What happened during the two days of strikes last week? Date: 05/21/16 14:16 Re: SCNF strike Author: 86235 PHall Wrote:

Something of an exaggeration, I have a number of colleagues who have lost their jobs in both France and the UK. Date: 05/21/16 19:15 Re: SCNF strike Author: PHall 86235 Wrote:

Just going by what I heard on National Public Radio last week. Date: 05/22/16 12:47 Re: SCNF strike Author: 86235 It depends where you are in the pecking order, you may not get 'fired' as such, but plenty of French workers are on fixed duration contracts. End of contract, end of job.
