Hamburg Wrap Up Friday April 29 2016
Author: tq-07fan

After visiting Miniatur-Wunderland we rode the Hochbahn to the Hamburg Hauptbahnhof. We had a group Day Pass which meant that we had to stay together as a group.
1) DT 3 train set. Notice that the time is already half past one. Allow several hours at least to see Minatur-Wunderland when you go there.
2) Hamburg Hauptbahnhof looking at the north end, opposite of what you saw from the previous day.
3) We rode to Ahrensburg. Ahrensburg is roughly 30 kilometers northeast of Hamburg on the line to Lübeck.

4-6) Rode back being pushed by 112181. It gave me a chance to look at the European coupling system throgh the window in the end of the coach.

7-9) Back at Hamburg two Class 218 diesels had what I think is a Track Geometry Train of some kind.

10-11) A class 605 diesel powered ICE train left right after the measurement train.
12) In the Hbf an RE 7 to Flensburg. The RE-7 goes past Pinneburg which our pass would still be valid to but there aren't many trains that stop there.

See the previous thread for the quick trip to Harburg and back

We stopped at a Rewe at the former Krohnskamp car house. They had an ex Hamburg tram outside that had been at a museum in Hanover. After so minor vandalism it has been put inside in the parking garage at the Rewe so although this shot is no longer possible it should also prohibit any more vandalism to the car.

This is the final picture from Hamburg. The next series of pictures will deal with Poland but it may be a dew days before i get motivated enough to put those on here. Anyways I hope everyone enjoyed Hamburg as much as I did. It took a bus convention in London to get me to go across the Ocean the first time and the conversion to liking, no loving European trains was quick and painless. If you have ever thought about going to Europe to see what railroading is like outside the US and Canada I strongly suggest a visit to Hamburg. A hint about railroading in Europe though, you may just find it too intense!

Thank you for Looking!

Jim

Your ex-Hamburg tram has a sister, #3557 in San Francisco. Here is a link to a very short video from 1983.  Please scroll down to the third video clip on that page:

http://www.pccstreetcar.com/index7.html  If you're interested.  It's definitely a short video; just for the record, I guess.
It probably takes me nearly as long to properly view all your photographs, as it took you to post them, maybe more!

Thanks for all the photos and detailed comments,
Norm

Yes 55002, except the Minatur Wonderland version has no windows!

I am glad that everyone liked the entire Hamburg series. Hamburg certainly is a place that I will have to revisit in several years whenever I go back to Europe.

Jim - thanks for all the uploads. I was in Hamburg last year, visiting Miniature and quite sometime at Harburg for the freight. Must go back. This year it was Belrlin. Chris uk.
