Since the question was asked earlier here are some shots of mainline steam in Ireland, north and south.

1: taken in 1993 what has always been the RPSI's signature locomotive, GNRI 4-4-0 no.171 Slieve Gullion leaving Belfast on the Portrush Flyer. 171 was built in 1912 by Beyer Peacock to the design of the GNRI's Chief Mechanical Engineer, George Glover.

2: Glover's piece de resistance were the five 3-cylinder compound V class built, again by Beyer Peacock, for the Dublin to Belfast mainline in the early 1930s. Here is 85 Merlin, the sole survivor, on a Dublin to Belfast Steam Enterprise, at Mountpleasant just north of Dundalk, at the start of the climb to Mourne summit on the border between the RoI and Northern Ireland.

3: The most modern loco in the RPSI stable is NCC no.4 a 2-6-4T of 1947. The Northern Counties Committee was the LMS in Northern Ireland, the Midland Railway having acquired the Belfast and Northern Counties in 1903. Here's no.4 on a Steam Enterprise from Belfast to Dublin passing Dromin Junction.

Are there are many living steam there?

Very interesting photo to me, and so different from what I used to see. Thank you!
BTW, what is the reason to make a track along the water, or even on piling?

When the line was extended from Wexford to Rosslare Harbour, where ferries from Britain still dock, the only way was along the quay. Today the quay has been extended to the left, so the trains are not so close to the water.
