I didn't have much time so these are all a bit random.

Anyway here we have E464.317 leading a double deck train and a double deck driving trailer.

Then we have some idea about the high-speed competition that occurs between FS and the private operator "Italo".

More of the competition! Two of the Italos pass on the approach with FS in the second picture,

Our train to Siena. Unfortunately the D445 failed and we had to wait an hour for the next. The other photo is of a "Minuetto" DMU.

They have a problem with tagging on FS but E464.205 seems to have escaped.

Some serious knitting in the throat photographs.

Thanks for those photos. I traveled to and from SMN several times when I lived in Italy. When I left (2007) privatization was just beginning. I hope that FS is doing better than Alitalia now.

A little trivia: the station is named for the nearby basilica, built by the Dominicans in the late Middle Ages/early Renaissance. One of the artworks in the church (by Masaccio) is one of the first examples of the use of true perspective in painting.
