European Railroad Discussion > Opposed piston action in LatviaDate: 05/21/17 23:31 Opposed piston action in Latvia Author: 86235 Sunday was the one day of our long weekend in Latvia dedicated to railfanning. We headed east along the Daugava River as far as Krustpils. Approaching Krustpils late morning was the third freight of the day, empty oil tanks headed by a 2TE10U, complete with pair of Fairbanks-Morse derived Khar'kov 10 cyl OP engines.
Note the extra large span bolster equipped eight axle tanks mid train, blue tank onwards. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 05/22/17 01:49 by 86235. You must be a registered subscriber to watch videos. As an aside, FM diesels were well liked in marine use. That to a degree hastened the demise of FM units here in the US. The diesel engines themselves became worth more than the complete units so there was an incentive to extract and sell the engines from FM units while scrapping the rest.
