I think both boards would be best. There is no question that the route is quintessentially Russian, but like Russia itself most of it is Asian.

I Iive in Europe - I'd prefer to think of Russia as not being in Europe, at least until a certain lunatic is no longer in charge. Put it in international, no debate there.

If we could invent the world we live in, I would support you, but sadly we can't.
Many posts here have shown images from the Baltic states and Finland, all of which have much more in common with Russia than western europe, but I guess we have to recognise reality, the same as accepting that most containers coming in through Felixstowe (or Rotterdam or Long Beach) have "China Shipping" on their sides.

One irony is that these Russified railways have far more in common with North America than we do in Europe!

Doesn't change the fact that it's more appropriate to put it in international than European; as i say, no debate about Russia being an international topic from a US perspective, whereas in fact it is at most Eurasian rather than European. My comment about the lunatic was somewhat tongue-in-cheek.
Quite what Chinese containers coming through Felixstowe has got to do with it is more than a little tangential...

krm152 - your comments are all very interesting but really rather irrelevant. What's Turkey got to do with this discussion? We're discussing the trans-Siberian rail route, the majority of which is in Asia. So the discussion most appropriately (and simply) belongs in the international forum as it is undoubtedly international in nature.

Apparently you meant to capitalize "i" just like I meant to spell waste instead of "was" but my spell checker did not catch that error since it wasn't a misspelling.
My intention has never been to offend anyone on TO.
I really just do not like politically oriented comments including those with which I agree.
Having said that, I find your comment about living in Europe most interesting.
Most English people with whom I am well acquainted do not consider themselves to be Europeans.
They consider themselves as being apart from Europe.
Usually, I would jokingly ask them how things were in Europe; they would respond that they hadn't an idea since they did not live there.
As we say here in the US; different strokes for different folks.
Life is to short to be upset about trivial matters.

I don't want to offend, but i assume the majority of Brits that you're acquainted with are reasonably 'senior'? I certainly consider myself European as do most of my friends and acquaintances in the UK. I think you'll find the majority of relatively young and well-educated young English people feel this way....although i have to say i'm not as young as i once was...!
When typing in haste on a forum i often don't capitalise an 'i', it's not like i'm leaving letters out so the post doesn't make sense or anything. ;-)

As to attitude toward Europe, Britain did recently vote to exit the EU. This would indicate the majority do not feel as you. In fact, the percentage in England supporting Brexit, excluding London, was quite high, over 55%. On the other hand, London, Scotland, and Northern Ireland quite strongly opposed Brexit.

When typing in haste on a forum I often rely on spell checking instead of proofreading. This time, I proofread.

There are times when large numbers of people vote very strangely...based on fear-mongering and perception rather than according to facts, for example - i think over your side of the Atlantic you're acutely aware of that!

Europe and the EU are not the same thing, it's convenient (but lazy) to conflate the two. Our regrettable vote to leave the EU doesn't make the British Isles any less part of the continent of Europe, a point which the Brexiteers don't seem to have grasped.

Congratulation on taking the Trans-Siberian, it's probably one of the greatest train rides in the world.
I rode all three routes in 2013-2015 and posted pictures in the European section till the train passed into Asia and after that in the International. I think I was just being a anal about it.
If you want the pictures to be seen post them all in the European as a few Americans look there but far fewer look in the International section.

I just want to say I'm looking forward to seeing your photos!

I don't think it much matters where you post them. But, wherever you post them, just be sure to put a head-up post on the _other_ forum with a link to the photos.

I'm hoping to ride east from Omsk to Vladivostok this summer.

Wow! What a storm I've created.
My decision is to post to the International with a link on the European.
Thanks for all your thoughts and interest.

Why not post them on the passenger trains forum?
After all it is a passenger train.

How about a new board just for Russian trains? At least it will save the intelligence folks some time!
