New candidate for ugliest train. Looks a bit like the front of the UA Turbos.

Does the plain front open to provide a safe passageway for access for passengers?

Yes. Three or four unit sets typically operate in multiple.

Yes they work in multiple but there is no passage between units anymore. The gangways gave all sorts of problems so on refurbishment they were sealed.

Nice pictures! They look pretty neat, would love to see the inside of the front area? Thank you for sharing... Beauty is in the eye of the beholder :):):)

The visibility from the cab must be horrible. I wonder how they couple them together without being able to see down. Maybe you don't need that visibility with buffer couplers?

I agree, coupling units must be a challenge but they don't have any buffers, looks like a Tightlock or Dellner auto couplers.

Class ICM: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NS_Intercity_Materieel

The style is called Koploper (head walker) in Dutch. It's been around for decades.

I lived there for a year and really liked the Koplopers- something different with their distinctive jumbo-jet driver's perch.

The VIRM units are the best looking in my opinion and they all stand out nicely in the yellow and blue.

The Red unit in pictures #1 and #2 is a "Hondekop" "Dog's Head" unit. Built in the mid to late 50's.

Actually it is a "Plan U" diesel - https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plan_U
