More from Switzerland
Author: birdman

1. Our train waits at Preda for a northbound Allegra hauled train to exit the Albula Tunnel. As soon as the northbound clears, we will enter the 5'000 meter long bore
2. A southbound train exits the snow shed and enters the station at Alp Grum
3. The Wiessen Viaduct on the Rhaetische Bahn. The locomotive carries an advertising scheme for the ice hockey team in Davos

It always amazes me that this, relatively unpopulated, part of Western Europe has such a decent train service. Most lines hourly, and still some freight. It's not just a high end tourist operation, though no doubt the tourists contribute significantly to the overall finances.

Did you stay at the Hotel Grischuna in Filisur? The first night shot's location seems very familiar to me. Many very happy memories staying at the Grischuna!

Yes, we stayed at the Grischuna for 8 nights. It was my fourth visit there. It's a wonderful hotel. Reto is a fabulous chef and Anna is a gracious host. She implied that they may not be there in a few years as they are getting along in years.

Yes, stayed at this hotel for three nights. A great facility and location.

Never enough photos of Swiss railroading. Wish their "How to do" manual could be understood here in the US>

Could not agree more! Fabulous hosts. I must get back there at least once more before they retire.
