European Railroad Discussion > Speed signs

While watching some Youtube videos of cab views of British trains, I see these speed signs. I am thinking that the 110 is MPH. Is the yellow one KPH? The leters are hard to read. But it does not look like KPH.

I would assume the yellow signs are for the HST. England only went halfway on conversion to Metric as railways and motorways are still in Imperial. Back in 2012 my wife and I took a bus from Heathrow to downtown London (too much luggage for the tube) and the first thing I noticed was the electronic speed signs on the motorway were in MPH.

An entry for a sign like the one in your photo lists the following -

"Standard Differential Permanent Speed Restriction Sign."

I think those are Enhanced Permissable Speed signs for trains such as the 390 Pendolino and 221 Super Voyager which have tilt capability.
