I've certainly been enjoying the recent uploads, so here's 3 from me.
1. 37027 at County March Summit, with the 16:10 Mallaig to Glasgow, with the beds for London. June 1982
2. 37027 at County March Summit, with a similiar working.  July 9th 1984
3. The Horse Shoe Curve neat Bridge of Orchy. Class 37 with the overnight sleeper from London to Fort William. June 6th 1982

1.  OK, so in the second photograph there are [ what appear to be ] two Mk 3 sleepers -- and hence [ what appears to be, for HEP ] ] an Ethel behind the locomotive.  Yet photos 1 and 4 [ Err, make that 1 and 3 ] have no Mk 3's;  1 I can understand as the Mk 3's just started delivery that year, and perhaps only one working was changed as yet.  But by 1984 that's surprising -- were there sleepers for anywhere else on that line at that time, or could this be a relief ?

2.  General question:  did the Mk 3 sleepers [ and the Ethel's perhaps ] have through steam lines for mixed working ?

Best, SZ

Ethel = Electric train heat, ex-locomotive.  The first conversion was as I recall named "Ethel".  BR also had a few BG's with diesel alt sets.

Chis,

I'd hazard a guess the year on shots 2 and 3 need swapping? Without looking I cant be certain when ETHELs started to be used but they certainly weren't about in 1982 whilst by 1984 they would have been with 37/4s appearing in late summer 1985 onwards leading to their demise.

Thanks John. I've checked my filling system, and indeed the dates got transposed. Corrected the titles. Chris uk.
