European Railroad Discussion > Kaunis Iron - The New Swedish Iron Ore OperationDate: 09/22/18 07:46 Kaunis Iron - The New Swedish Iron Ore Operation Author: YukonYeti The Malmbanan/Ofotbanen lines from Kiruna to Narvik have long been a unique and interesting operation. LKAB with its DM3 side rod locomotives and later its IORE electrics, one of the largest electric locomotives in the world have lured fans from across the world to this Arctic line. The summer of 2018 marked a change with the additon of Kaunis Iron.. Using six former RUSH RAIL Bombardier TRAXX locomotives, Kaunis operates two trains a day to Narvik... This video taken at Bjornfjell, Norway on September 4 will give the viewer a taste of big time electric railroading.

I have just one question ? Just wondering how many trains a day operate in both directions including passenger trains??? Thank you for sharing!!! :):):) Date: 09/22/18 14:33 Re: Kaunis Iron - The New Swedish Iron Ore Operation Author: sarailfan Reflective striping is in exactly the same spot on each set of cars. Does the dumper use an optical sensor to position the cars for unloading?

Does the dumper use an optical > sensor to position the cars for unloading? Notice the round roller on the lip of the car. It contacts an elevated rail that tips the body of the car to the far side to empty the contents without raising the wheels and frame off the rails, and then lowers the body back down once the car passes the receiving hopper which is beside the track, not below it. Watch the video titled "Helix Dumper unloading trial in 2015" Pretty much the opposite of a Hulett unloader. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/24/18 15:45 by Duna. |
