Not been out for a while with the camera so had a walk into the station for a look around.

1 - One of the new Vossloh class 68 loco's for Trans Pennine loco hauled stock, when they get into service they may make travelling on TP a bit more bearable.

2 - Class 144 pacer unit, possibly the worst trains ever built, normally used on the York - Harrogate - Leeds services, but see next image.

3 - Class 170 DMU in Scotrail livery, now in use on the York - Harrogate - Leeds services, although about 20 years old and well hammered in Scotland they are positive luxury for the travellers over the Pacers.

Possibly the best place to watch trains, the York Tap with it's large range of craft beers on platform 3, this was the original tea rooms when the station was built.

If the York Tap fails then Costa coffee is further down the platform in what was the second station signal box, when the building was a signal box the overbridge did not exist.

That class 68 has a caterpillar engine (C175) in it.

In the early 1980's, a 00 guage model railway was situated in the rooms of the York Tap.
Spent many hours watching trains from this platform.

It moved to Gaisborough but has since closed, if I remember correctly.

For those of you that bemoan the looks of the new Charger locomotives in the US.
One look at the front of the 68 class shows you how bad it could be.

Beauty is in the eye... I really like the 68 design.

If you look very closely you will notice similarities with Metrolinks F125s . They are very close cousins. The class 68s are much better looking than the very plain Chargers

I spent a week in york in 2013.  Reason was to see the Great Gathering of the A4's.

A great place to watch trains.  My only complaint was that the York Tap did not serve food!!!!!

I visited York in December 1995.  I wish I could have had a pint then.  Gerry

The really busy pilot with the buffers does not help in the looks department.

Agreed - it could have been neater/more tidy in that area.

Good to see York. I’ve enjoyed a few sessions at The Tap. Chris UK

I’ll be flying back home to Northallerton 30 miles North of York, for six weeks next month.
It’s certainly different to spending most of the year in my new home just south of Atlanta.
It’s exciting to think you will soon be able to enjoy loco haulage again across the Pennines 30 odd years after the passing of my beloved Peaks.
Luckily I’ve timed it right so I can sample again(hopefully) Peaks 44004 and 46010 at the up and coming Severn Valley Diesel Gala during my annual visit back to good ole blighty.
Oh and there are lots of even better places to drink real ale in York than the tourist infused Tap!
