LNER HSTs
Author: gbmott

I just happened to look at the York railcam and what appeared to be a full 9-car HST set went south.  I had thought the HSTs were dead other than shortened sets in Scotland and perhaps Transpennine, but was the recent discussion of their retirement only related to those on the GWR?  I think to this day that they are the most comfortable trains in Britain, but . . . . .

Full size HSTs are still in service on LNER, XC and East Midlands. Short sets are used by GWR and ScotRail. LNER's are probably next to go as the 800 and 801 class Azumas take over. East Midlands are safe for a year or two, XC for a little while longer.

Thanks, the situation is not quite as bleak as I thought.
