Expo 86, BR models at the British Pavilion
Author: eminence_grise

The British pavilion at Expo 86 in Vancouver BC included this wooden mock up of a Class 91 electric locomotive and Mark 4 coaches. The model locomotive is lettered "Electra", a name that never appeared on the production locomotives, plus in production, the locomotives were lettered Inter City.

The single coach above is an interesting concept that never went into production. In appears to be a UK version of a "Corail" coach. Corail coaches werea standard design of day coach used on several of the European rail systems, which were compatible with the coaches of other countries and were a frequent feature of long distance passenger trains.

I think the idea behind this design was a British coach compatible with the Corail design capable of operating through the Channel Tunnel.

Is the coach one of the 10 car International set which BREL built as a demonstrator for prospective foreign orders? IIRC Mexico showed some interest but as NdeM's passenger services were falling apart so it didn't go anywhere. In the event they ended up in Ireland.
