#1 South bound freight , at least I guess it was south, in the direction of Sicily.

#2. Passenger train headed  north towards Battapaglia, and maybe Naples.

#3. Same as number two.

October 3, 1996.

I was in Paestum about 10 years later, on a mostly drizzly day. As we were leaving, however, the sun came out and I got this photo of a rainbow. It was taken from approximately in front of the station in photo 3, and you can see part of the sign on the left edge of that photo.

Paestum is a real gem, with surprisingly intact Greek temples. Well worth a trip -- by train, of course.

Yes, very well worth the trip. I've done it from Naples.

Back on railways I have to admit to rather liking the old Italian style of having engines in plain brown. Hardworking motors with function at least as important as form. I think the E645s were among the last to carry this livery.

Great photo.  Paestum was one of the highlights of a month long European trip.  The ruins were fascinating, and so quiet.  I think I was the only one there.
