English Electric Survivors
Author: exhaustED

A few recent shots during the good weather of some retro English Electric light power moves on the Marches line in the western half of England, close to the Welsh border...around the small town of Craven Arms.

The class 20 is an 8 cylinder, 1000hp mixed traffic loco, built in 1961.
The class 37s were built in the 1960s also, 1750hp, 12 cylinder mixed traffic locos.

Photo 1. Colas Railfreight's class 37 no. 37421, on a route learning trip down the Heart of Wales line and back.

Photo 2. Class 20, operated by Locomotive Services Ltd., mainly on passenger railtours, returning from just such an excursion, heading back north to Crewe from South Wales. It carries its original number of D8107.

Photo 3. Locomotive Services Ltd class 37s nos. 37521 and 37667 (carrying their original numbers of D6817 and D6851) heading south to retrieve the failed Black 5 steam loco from the railtour that class 20 D8107 had been working along with the steam loco!

Photo 4. Close-up of the green class 37s.... Put some Beach Boys* on and it could almost be the 1960s again... *other 60s bands are available...

Lol, yes it is! I always liked the BR green with small yellow warning panels - it seemed to suit pretty much every class it was used on.
