Back to London
Author: 86235

A long weekend in London, my first visit for 15 months, the longest I've ever been away. Today I spent the whole day riding trains around the city, taking pictures. The weather was appalling for mid May but that didn't really dampen my spirits, it was great to be back.

Out at Headstone Lane in NW London a pair of Southern 377s on an East Croydon to Milton Keynes service. On the DC local lines a new London Overground class 710 on a Euston to Watford Junction service.

At South Kenton 66418 on an intermodal service from Felixstowe to Trafford Park.

The new West Hampstead station on the North London Line (NLL) with a train to Richmond approaching. The station was rebuilt to cope with increasing numbers of passengers, both from interchange and from new residential developments.

Alongside the NLL station is the Thameslink station, an 800 class 750v DC / 25kV AC EMU on a St Albans City service approaches the West Hampstead (Thameslink) station.

Behind the EMU came 66090 Maritime Intermodal Seven on 6M51, an empty rock train from Thurrock to Mountsorrel.

At St Pancras International a 700 clas EMU on a Luton bound service.

At Alexandra Palace a pair of 110 mph class 387s on a King's Lynn to King's Cross service.

And finally, a few days after being withdrawn from regular service on Great Northern a 365 on an empty coaching stock (ECS) working from Hornsey depot to the carriage sidings at Hertford North. A stalwart of GN outer suburban services to Cambridge, Peterborough and King's Lynn since they were built in the 1990s, the future for the 365s is uncertain, which is a shame as they are really nice units.

Great set, Nick. With bargain fares on LNER, I'd love a trip down there, but don't fancy a day wearing a mask!! chris uk.
