More 56s
Author: 86235

Since 56049 appeared on the 6Z51 Baglan Bay to Chirk timber at the beginning of May we've been graced with three other Colas 56s, 56096, 56094 and 56090 running the same service. Still only 10 wagons, so no more than half size or less and running four days a week until this week when it's been reduced to twice weekly (TThO). Still no real idea why the short trains except that it may have something to do with last year's timber stack fire and a requirement on Kronospan not to store so much timber on site.

1: On May 7th 56049 Robin of Templecombe made its last appearance on the empties, running about 30 minutes early past Penpergwm
2: The following week 56096 took over, running light engine from Gloucester to Baglan Bay on Monday morning, ready for the first departure of the week Monday evening. Here it is passing Newport and a similarly vintage BR design. Things didn't go too well with 56096, it derailed at the loading location in Baglan Bay and was banished in disgrace. I don't think this was 56096's fault, I suspect it was dodgy track and as a consequence no train ran until Monday May 17th.
7: On May 17th 56094 was in charge as 6Z51 approaches the Wales / England border with the Skirrid / Ysgyryd Fawr on the left. May was a particularly wet month in the UK, I had a couple of soaking whilst out on the 17th but by the evening the skies had cleared.

4: On May 18th I had to go to Newport for my second Covid jab, stopped off at Penperlleni on the way home for 6Z51
5: On the 19th I went down to Abergavenny station
6: The following week 56090 had taken over, here she is on Tuesday 25th just reaching the top of Llanvihangel bank

7: 56090 descends from Llanvihangel summit, this was taken on May 26th after my last Pacer ride.
8: Final picture, taken on Wednesday last week (June 2nd) 56090 about a mile or so from Llanvihangel summit.

All are excellent compositions and scenes.  The 56's really look good.
