European Railroad Discussion > A Prime Mover Representing Anglo-American UnityDate: 06/21/21 11:35 A Prime Mover Representing Anglo-American Unity Author: milepost20 Just out of the paint shop is GB Railfreight 69001 in a paint scheme representing
the strong relationship between GBRF and Progress Rail. The"Mayflower" was remanufactured at the EMD-Longport facility in the UK and is now powered by an EMD 12N-710G3B-T2 engine as found in the numerous class 66 fleet. The 69001 was built as the 56031 at Doncaster Works in 1977 powered by a 16 cyl. Ruston-Paxman engine and is one of ten scheduled for rebuilding at Longport from class 56 cores(with an option for six more). Photos courtesy of the European-based RailColorNews site. Glad to see the Class 56 getting a makeover that should keep them in service for years to come. I do miss the front grille.
