European Railroad Discussion > Buskers, local train in south Carpathians, UkraineDate: 08/06/21 13:26 Buskers, local train in south Carpathians, Ukraine Author: gobbl3gook I was rolling south on a local train from Volovets in the Carpathian Mountains down to Mukachevo at the edge of the Hungarian plain. The train was mostly empty. It was hot out, and a little smoky. Empty ex-Soviet local trains are just big rattling boxes, they feel as big as a barn. Six seats abreast, only a dozen or so people in the car. A few windows open, we were rolling down a river canyon between towns.
In popped a trio of buskers -- a guy and two kids, and he was playing the accoridan, loud! The children were singing. A little off key. They'd approach each of the riders and sing for 20 or 30 seconds, then move on. Not much pressure, but a lot of volume. I think other people gave them a few coins, probably 5 or 10 cents each in US$. I gave them something a little more generous, in their plastic donation bag. October 2019. South side of Volovets Pass, Ukraine.
