European Railroad Discussion > North Norfolk Railway spring steam galaDate: 04/02/22 08:35 North Norfolk Railway spring steam gala Author: WP17 We spent two days visiting close friends in Norwich (about 2 hours northeast of London). Since they were aware of my interest in railroads, they drove us up to Sheringham to ride the North Norfolk Railway. And it just happened that the NN Rwy was holding its Spring Steam Gala this weekend. This involved a total of 6 preserved steam locomotives operating on passenger and "goods" trains at various times over three days. Here is a selection of photos of the operations from Friday afternoon.
Since my knowledge of steam tends to be restricted to 4449 and 844, I will refrain from adding any more info about the locomotives I saw other than indicating the number. I will leave it to others on this board who are more knowledgeable to comment on the possible significance and import of this set of steam engines. WP17 #1: 53809 pulling a passenger train into the station at Sheringham. #2: 53809 after running around the train backing up onto its train. #3: 53809 ready to leave for Holt with its train. #5: we rode another train pulled by 41241 which met yet another train pulled by 564 at Weymouth. #6: a good side view of 41241 Date: 04/02/22 08:48 Re: North Norfolk Railway spring steam gala Author: WP17 Date: 04/02/22 09:59 Re: North Norfolk Railway spring steam gala Author: 86235 Oh excellent, not been to the NNR since we left Norfolk in 2016. Nice selection of locos on show, including the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway's 41241 which I assume was visiting for the gala.
Both 53809 and 92203 are NNR residents, the former an LMS 2-8-0 built in the 1920s for working over the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway and the latter a BR Standard 9F decapod from the 1950s.
