SNCF at Juan Les Pins 1982
Author: erielackawanna

I was traveling with three friends and we picked Juan Les Pins for a day on the beach one morning. We get there, in nice light, and I realize this is only the second time I was looking at good light in an open train station now two weeks or so into our trip. I told my friends I was going to wait at the station and take train pictures for an hour or so. I'd find them later. I remember one of them turning to me and saying, "we're going to a topless beach and college is on break and you want to stay here?" I nodded... wearing my raifan nerdem with deep pride. SNCF local on the Cannes-Antibes-Ventimiglia line is pushed into the station by the Alsthom motor. The BB-25550 units are called "danseuses" (dancers) due to their rough suspensions. The design dates to 1956, but this particular unit was placed in service in 1974. The cars are RIO (Rame Inox Omnibus) stock, which means stainless steel local service cars. (Photo taken August 3, 1982, Juan Les Pins, Antibes, France)

Great stuff.

Reminds me so much of our family holidays in Frejus in the late 1970’s.

Watch the trains and get a suntan.

A fine photo of an interesting engine. And I admire your commitment to your craft. But I think I would have picked the beach...for at least a while.

I think the motor and cars ended up in Romania.

Hopefully not the beach, too. (Sorry, couldn't resist...)
