"One person was killed and dozens were injured after a passenger train carrying about 60 people derailed in the Netherlands, Dutch emergency services said. The train left the tracks after colliding with construction equipment early on Tuesday, at Voorschoten, about eight kilometres (five miles) north of The Hague." "Images from the scene showed a front carriage derailed and ploughing into a field, while a second derailed carriage landed on its side. A third carriage remained upright, while a fourth caught fire, the ANP news agency said." Date: 04/04/23 12:40 Re: Netherlands train crash: one dead Author: petmew A freight train collided first with the "crane on lorries", likely pushed the crane in the path of the passenger train.
Two tracks were in normal use, two tracks were supposedly out of service for track work. Both engineers survived, the crane operator did not... It could have been a lot worse!

No one has said that they have "bad crashworthyness", they just don't meet the currant FRA and DOT standards. Standards that were part of the knee jerk reactions after we had a couple of particularly bad wrecks. Have the railway car construction standards improved in the past decade?
