Competing trains between Edinburgh and London meet under the train shed at York, UK... quite the grand station, on April 8, 2023.

Nice!  York station is certainly one of the outstanding Victorian-era stations still in daily use in the UK.  I don't think the XC and LNER trains are competing for Edinburgh - London business however.  Cross Country services at York are typically linking Scotland with southern and southwestern England.  The franchise's purpose is to provide long distance service that bypasses London, where through travel almost always requires a time-consuming change of station.

When I visited circa 2002, I was agog at the superb cast iron bridgework supporting the shed.

A beautiful station. It's one of my favorites. When and for what reason where the non-platform tracks removed.
