Bristol Temple Meads today
Author: 86235

Temple Meads is Bristol's main city centre station. It's currently being restored, hence the scaffolding. Three pictures taken this afternoon

1: GWR Castle Class HST on the 12:14 Newport to Taunton stopping service with 43009 Nunney Castle leading (and 43170 Chepstow Castle trailing)

2: Approaching the station from the direction of Bedminster, an 802/0 on 2U12 08:50 Penzance to Newport. Until at least next week all services between Cardiff and Taunton / Penzance are starting / finishing their journeys in Newport. This is on account of a fire in a lineside signalling cabinet yesterday.

3: Back on the station the 13:14 ex-NWP to Penzance led by 43029 Caldicot Castle. Plenty of custom awaits.

Those pictures bring back a memory from 1988 - I was fortunate to get two trips to England first in 1987 when we were bidding on the Class 60 locos and in 1988 when we had a wheel/overhanging brake shoe issue on the class 59's. I was standing on that curved platform waiting for an HST and it was running about an hour late, finally came into the station around the curve and the lead power car sidewall was soaked in fresh engine oil that the engine had puked out the stack.

Nice train shed to set off scene. I had to look Temple Meads station in Google. Cathedral style head house is impressive.
